The Way of Health
Earl Nightingale famously pondered, "Why don't people utilize their minds more effectively?" It's a completely free tool we're born with, and yet we often neglect to harness this invaluable resource, especially when it comes to our health.
This is a key point, as good health follows rules that are just as constant, reliable, and inflexible as the laws of physics or gravity. You might know of these, but you probably haven't heard much about the equally important laws of health, which combat diseases. This is particularly true in today's world of highly processed and addictive foods. Our bodies operate tightly along these health laws, and maintaining focus on them takes a good amount of discipline.
What Are The Laws of Health?
When you look over this list, you’ll think it’s too simple, but that’s the point, it doesn’t need to be complex. What needs to be present is a uniform application of these laws throughout our lives.
Proper diet
Cleanliness and hygiene
Fresh air
Exercise
Sleep and rest
Avoiding bodily injury
A positive mental attitude.
When we follow these principles, we enjoy strong, vigorous health. Think about it like maintaining your car. It requires specific types of gasoline, oil, and other fluids to function properly. Using the wrong fluids can irreparably damage the vehicle. Similarly, our bodies have specific needs, and neglecting them will have detrimental consequences.
Isn't this precisely what millions of people are doing to themselves? They undervalue health until they lose it; not taking the same care of their body as their automobile. Putting any old type of fuel in their gas tank - that is, down into their stomach - reaps the effects of that ill-thought-out choice.
Making matters worse is that consumers are being tricked. Food is very personal, and we have deep-seated emotions attached to it. It’s made so hyper-processed and tasty that it can become addictive and almost impossible to put down. Food companies thrive on confusion, telling us that if we want their junk food, to consume it and then forget the consequences. This type of message has us so distracted that we simply don’t pay attention to how we feel until it’s late in the game.
Many also fail to counter misleading marketing tactics because preventative nutrition isn’t taught in schools and is frequently overlooked by doctors. We’re simply guided towards a medical path, but we’re betrayed by our destination. Promised health, supported on the crutches of medication and surgeries, is a fleeting illusion that we take for granted until it’s lost.
Walking the “way of health” requires a deep understanding of its underlying principles. Then each correct decision paves the path to lasting well-being, transforming our daily life into a tapestry rich with vitality and wellness.
